SUMMARY

Since opening our door in 1908, Florida United Methodist Children's Home (FUMCH) has served children and families' diverse needs by focusing on providing food, shelter, a safe environment, all to meet each child's emotional, physical, social, and cognitive needs.

The Child and Family Therapist Licensed- Bilingual (Spanish/English)provides behavioral health treatment planning and individual and group therapy to children in the Caminos program. The Therapist conducts mental health assessments and screens for human trafficking concerns. The Therapist maintains accurate case documentation and provides crisis intervention and support services.

EDUCATION

  • Masters Degree in Human Services or related field from a nationally accredited college or university

  • LCSW, LMHC, or LMFT is required

  • A minimum of two years of experience in social work, counseling, or related area of experience

  • Be able to communicate (written and verbal) in English and Spanish effectively with all staff and youth

  • Have a workable understanding of appropriate theory and methodology in psychology

  • Must be able to work within the philosophy of services to children and families consistent with the ministry and goals of the Florida United Methodist Children's Home and the contract with the Board or Child Care/Office of Refugee Resettlement

  • Be familiar with DSM5, ICD10 assessment and diagnosis

  • Maintain professional licensure requirements

  • Sensitivity to the service populations cultural and socioeconomic characteristics

  • Maintain professional liability insurance ($1M, $3M, $5M)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for providing youth with individual counseling sessions at least one time weekly, providing additional support as clinically necessary.

  • Responsible for ensuring group counseling sessions are provided in the residential milieu at least twice weekly and that one session is facilitated by a therapist.

  • Responsible to ensure that Line of Sight and Sound Supervision standards are being met at all times while with youth.

  • Works with youth and family/sponsor to establish short-term goals and objectives.

  • Provides assistance with the completion of the individual service plan and required assessments within regulatory time frames.

  • Responsible for developing and implementing clinical interventions designed to assist the youth with acclimating to the Florida United Methodist Childrens Home and life in the United States.

  • Responsible for ensuring the youth are given the support necessary to identify and discuss concerns related to their journey into the United States or life in home country.

  • Collaborates with program staff to ensure that interventions and supports are established to modify dysfunctional behaviors and assist the youth to heal and strengthen their internal resources as well as learn socially appropriate skills.

  • Conducts screenings and assessments to identify special needs, developmental, medical, or mental health concerns as well as criminal history, gang involvement, trauma, and/or trafficking-related concerns in accordance with mandated timeframes.

  • Conducts and documents risk assessment screenings in accordance with mandated timeframes.

  • Provides crisis intervention and supports.

  • Ensures all assessments and screenings reflect involvement of the youth, family, and potential sponsors as appropriate.

  • Evaluate the childs/youths/familys progress towards goal attainment on a designated basis in line with individual treatment and discharge plan goals.

  • Maintain effective working relationships with families, children/youth, colleagues, consultants, and community agencies.

  • Active participation in mandatory case review and planning meetings, demonstrating the ability to present an accurate and concise client summary to both internal and external team members.

  • Complete required documentation and reports within the defined timelines.

  • Ensure assigned case records meet documentation standards both with regards to documentation in the required agency, state, and federal databases and with regards to the client case file.

  • Acts in the capacity as Therapist On Call.

  • Must be available, as needed, in the evenings and on weekends with flex scheduling.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and familiarity with both FUMCH and Office of Refugee Resettlement Policy and Procedures relating to the care and supervision of Unaccompanied Children. This includes knowledge of legal background and authority governing the practice as related to working with Unaccompanied Children.

  • Is responsive to staff and residents when there is a need for crisis counseling.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This role does not have any supervisory responsibility.
