Job Description Job Description GENERAL DESCRIPTION Responsible
for leading, supervising, and instructing an assigned group of
campers and counselor staff as part of a Summer Camp program for
children ages 6 – 13 at Athletic Camp, to ensure safety, fun, and
learning. Work is performed under the supervision of the Day Camp
Coordinator in accordance with established methods, schedules, and
procedures. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Represents City at assigned
program sites and field trips; May be responsible for opening and
closing of the facility; Responsible for direct supervision of and
general welfare and safety of assigned camp participants,
counselors, and facility; Assist with the implementation of Summer
Camp program activities, field trips, and events; Responsible for
proper inventory of equipment and supplies needed for the Summer
Camp program. Ensures broken or dangerous equipment is reported to
Supervisor and removed from use by staff and participants;
Continually interacts with camp participants, staff, and parents;
Responsible for proper record keeping and reporting, to include
registration forms, liability waivers, incident reports, medical
forms, and other camp-related reports; Participates in daily camp
activities and weekly trips including swimming, hiking, sporting
games, climbing, archery, and other children's activities, as
scheduled; Evaluates and suggests improvements, needs, hazards, and
trends to Supervisor for further evaluation and follow-up; Assists
with set-up and clean-up of Summer Camp events and programming;
Promotes safe work practices and ensures compliance with City
safety policies; Attends meetings and other related events;
Interacts effectively with fellow employees, program participants,
supervisors, school staff, professionals and the general public;
Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to interact effectively with the public, agencies, and
staff at all levels. Ability to work well with a variety of age
groups. Ability to work continually through the Summer Camp
schedule. Ability to work flexible hours (to include potentially
nights and weekends) Ability to deal with stressful conditions in a
calm and professional manner Ability to perform various job tasks
in all weather conditions Ability to maintain effective working
relationships with peers, supervisors, and the public. MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS High school graduate, or equivalent. Associates
degree is preferred. Minimum one-year experience working with
children in either a summer camp or classroom setting. Must be a
minimum of 18 years of age. Valid Florida Driver's License. A
combination of education, training, and experience may be
considered. EQUIPMENT USED A variety of recreation and sports
equipment: includes, but is not limited to; athletics, arts and
crafts, drama, target sports, water sports, canoes and kayaks, and
nature and ecological activities. Office related equipment such as
phones, computers and copiers, as well as communication related
equipment such as portable mobile radios. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work requires constant public contact, use of the telephone,
reading, writing, typing, very frequent walking, sitting, standing,
swimming, and occasional lifting of 40 lbs., bending, stooping,
running, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crawling, climbing, and
reaching overhead. Works frequently in extreme weather. JOB
LOCATION Primarily located at Northwest Recreation Complex. May
work at any City owned buildings, parks, grounds and recreation
facilities. All off-site locations and facilities utilized as part
of the City's participation or involvement in an event, activity or
